""Norton's arrangements serve his source material well; he magnifies the intimacy and the exactness of Evans' trio tunes without losing musical focus." "Each musician is a strong player in his or her own right, and they turn in capable, energetic solos, but the instrumentalists excel as a unit.""

About the album

Originally from San Francisco, Seattle-based composer, arranger, and woodwind multi-instrumentalist Jim Norton returned to the Bay Area to reunite with a stellar cast of former bandmates for a wide-ranging exploration of the compositions of Bill Evans. With his distinctive harmonic language and experimentations with mixed meters, polyrhythms and non-traditional forms, Evans's music provides an intriguing platform for Norton's inspired arrangements.

Mit seiner markanten Harmonik und den Experimenten mit verschiedenen Taktarten, Polyrhythmik und unkonventionellen Formen bietet Evans Musik eine interessante Plattform für Nortons inspirierte Arrangements – hören Sie selbst.

Bill Evans

Bill Evans performed twenty-one times in The Netherlands during his musical career. In 1964 his manager Helen Keane organized a first European tour for the Bill Evans Trio. In 1965 came a second tour, with Chuck Israels on bass and Larry Bunker on drums. The very first time Bill played in The Netherlands was February 12th of that year: in the afternoon the trio did a studio recording, broadcast by Dutch radio, and in the evening they gave a concert at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with its neoclassical architecture and famous acoustics. Bill's last Dutch concert, with Marc Johnson on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums, occurred on December 10th, 1979, less than a year before his untimely passing in...
